High-bush cranberry is a medium-tall shrub that occurs in moist soil in openings in lowland forests, at the margins of wetlands, and in mixed shrub swamps, or openings in hardwood swamps or tamarack swamps. The European species (Viburnum opulus) is often sold in nurseries, but is invasive, and should be avoided.
