MISSISSIPPI HEADWATERS EASEMENTS
Seeking landowners with 20+ acres on or near The Mississippi River
This program uses funding from the Outdoor Heritage Fund to create and expand habitat corridors within the Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, and Morrison Counties.
We work specifically with the Mississippi Headwaters Habitat Corridor easements within Cass, and Crow Wing County. Criteria includes habitat diversity, parcel size or suitability, habitat corridor connectivity, and potential for habitat fragmentation. Habitat corridors within the first 400 miles of the Mississippi River help protect more than 350 species of animals, mammals, and birds. This includes nearly all the endangered, rare, and threatened species listed in Minnesota. If you live on a on the Mississippi River or major tributary and headwaters lake that drains into the Mississippi River you might quality for this program.
